Gynecologic Oncology
Infertility is a condition that does not allow an individual to conceive a child. Female infertility can be two-fold, the inability to conceive a child as well as the inability to carry a child to term. Generally, it is considered that 40% of infertility issues arise because of the man, 40% because of the woman, and 20% because of the complications from the end of both the partners.
We provide a range of options for patients to treat this condition. We provide patients complete guidance to freeze their eggs. In this process, the eggs from the ovaries of the woman are frozen for later use, this is a process that is used when the woman is facing future where she may not be able to conceive. In vitro fertilization is also a procedure we can support women with. IVF is the most effective assisted reproductive technology.
We also assist women with intrauterine insemination as well as tubal ligation reversal. These procedures are conducted with the assistance of experts and using the latest possible technologies to provide our patients with the best possible results.
Colposcopy and Cervical Screening
Colposcopy is a procedure of diagnosis through detailed examination of an illuminated magnified view of the cervix as well as the tissues of the vagina and the vulva. There are a number of premalignant lesions and malignant lesions in this region that have specifically identifiable characteristics that can be detected through this examination. The goal of this procedure is to identify the onset of cervical cancer and to catch it before it sets in too deep.
Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the world and is one of the leading cause of cancer deaths among women. Cervical cancer develops from precancerous changes that span over10 to 20 years. This makes it imperative to have stringent screening in case you know that you have a history of this disease. Colposcopy is carried out in case there is an abnormal PAP smear test.
Endometriosis
This is a painful disorder in which the tissue lining that grows inside the uterus begins to grow outside the uterus. This disease involves the ovaries, fallopian tubes, as well as the tissues lining your pelvis. The most common symptom of the disease is pelvic pain which can often be correlated to your menstrual period. Endometriosis pain is usually far more severe than the usual cramping during menstruation.
There are a number of risks associated with this disease. These include, the inability to bear a child, starting periods at an early age, shorter menstrual cycles, low body mass index, severe pain during intercourse, excessive bleeding and severely painful periods, among others. Ovarian cancer also has higher prevalence rate among women suffering from this disease.
Incontinence and Prolapse
Urinary incontinence and uterine prolapse are becoming more and more common these days. The cause behind this condition is the weakening pelvic support or a weakening of the floor of the pelvis. There are several types of incontinence, some which can happen only once a day during excessive laughter, coughing or sneezing. If this happens regularly it can become very troublesome.
We ensure that women are checked for weakening pelvic structures. There are many cases where a woman goes in to address a uterine issue but the fact that bladder has dropped is not addressed. We do not make such mistakes. We ensure that we provide our patients a complete checkup to ensure that they do not suffer at a latter day.
Uterine prolapse is more insidious. This condition can mask its symptoms as a part of ageing. As the issue progresses, the cervix and the uterus can be felt at the vaginal opening or even protrude all the way outside the body. This can cause a lot of pressure and discomfort for the woman.
We perform the TVT procedure to help women with incontinence. In cases of prolapse, if the situation is considered serious it may call for a hysterectomy. At RMC we have a number of highly experienced surgeons that can give you the best option at a rapid recovery after facing such a condition.
Hysterectomy
This is the procedure that entails the removal of the uterus or the womb of the woman. Depending upon the type of the procedure, the reason for the surgery and other underlying conditions, it may also entail the removal of the fallopian tubes. This is considered to be the most common major surgery that women face around the world. Approximately, 300 out of a 100,000 women will undergo this procedure.
This surgery is one of the most common methods of treating uterine cancer, cervical cancer, over and above benign conditions such as fibroids and endometriosis that is causing excessive bleeding and pain for the patient.
There are different types of hysterectomies. The total abdominal hysterectomy involves the removal of the uterus including the cervix through the abdomen. Vaginal hysterectomy is where the uterus is removed through the vagina, and is used for those suffering from uterine prolapse, endometrial hyperplasia, or cervical dysplasia. Laproscopy assisted vertical hysterectomy is similar to vaginal hysterectomy but is conducted with the help of a laproscope.
Gynaecological Cancers
There are a total of five gynaecological cancers – womb, ovarian, cervical, vaginal and vulval. Unfortunately there is little to no awareness about the same. There are some very basic symptoms regarding these cancers, such as vaginal bleeding. There are other symptoms as well, but they are less obvious.
Cervical cancer affects the cells lining the cervix, which is the opening form the womb to the vagina. Ovarian cancer develops when the cells in the ovary grow and multiply too quickly leading to damage to the healthy tissue and it is the second most common gynaecological cancer. Vaginal cancer is most commonly observed among women north of 60 and starts inside the vagina. Vulval cancer is relatively rare and affects the external sex organs of a woman. This usually starts between the lips of the vulva, on the clitoris, as well as the skin between the vulva and the anus. Womb cancer is the most common gynaecological cancer afflicting women. It is also called endometrial cancer or uterine cancer.
